An apology to Aboriginal Territorians

I, Michael Murphy, Commissioner of the Northern Territory Police am deeply sorry to all Aboriginal Territorians, for the past harms and injustices caused by members of the Northern Territory Police.

I formally apologise for the hurt inflicted upon Aboriginal people, and together with my fellow officers, I commit the NT Police service to do the hard work to transform our relationship with Aboriginal Territorians for a safer community for all.

We know that we cannot change or undo the past, but together we can commit to not repeating our mistakes and the injustices.

Daly River

About

The Daly River district is one of the major tourist destinations within the Northern Territory. The Aboriginal name for the community is Nauiya.

Daly River itself is a picturesque tidal river, home to both freshwater and saltwater crocodiles, and a plentiful source of barramundi.

Facilities include a sports oval, hall with gym, basketball and volleyball courts, games room and a swimming pool.

There are many fishing and hunting opportunities. Daly River has a number of boat ramp access points and a number of camping grounds/caravan parks within the district.

Education

Two schools provide education services to the Nauiya community.

Woolianna School is a Northern Territory Government school for Transition to Year 9 students.

There is also the Catholic School, St. Francis Xavier, in the community available to children of all ages.

Health

The Daly River Medical Centre staff includes registered nurses and Aboriginal health workers and a doctor visits every Thursday.
