About
Elliott is located in the heart of the Northern Territory’s cattle country. Kulumindini is the traditional Aboriginal name for Elliott and the town lies on important Dreaming tracks.
Town facilities are good for the size of the town and include a nine-hole golf course, tennis courts and covered in basketball courts.
The Elliott Hawks take part in tournaments every year as part of the Barkly AFL. The annual Brunette Downs Races held in June, sees 3 days of racing, camp drafting, bronco branding, rodeo, and gymkhana and novelty races. The event has an on-course bookmaker, bar, catering and live entertainment.
Fire and Emergency Response Group
The Fire and Emergency Response Group (FERG) consists of volunteer members who are trained in road crash rescue, grass firefighting techniques, first aid and search and rescue.
A small firefighting appliance is located in Elliott. The FERG is also responsible for maintaining the road crash rescue equipment which is also located at the Elliott Fire Station.
Education
The Elliott School caters to pre-school to middle years and the Newcastle Waters School provides education up to Year 11.
School of the Air is also available.
Health services
The Elliott Health Centre is in the town. A Medical Officer is on-call at all hours in Tennant Creek for phone consultations and evacuations.
