About
Primarily a cattle and farming district, Adelaide River also attributes a substantial mining presence within the district. The dry season sees a large influx of tourists and travellers that come for the attractions of the nearby Litchfield National Park.
There are excellent sporting facilities including a cricket/netball court, a football oval, outdoor cricket pitch and a multi-sport asphalt playing court. A non-denomination church building is shared by various religious organisations. A community drop in centre is located at the town oval which boasts a gymnasium and scout group depot. There are a range of motocross and 4WD tracks along the Adelaide River. The region is also popular for camping and fishing. The show/rodeo/campdraft weekend in May and Adelaide River Cup in June are the township’s main annual events.
Fire and Emergency Response Group
A Fire and Emergency Response Group (FERG) exists in Adelaide River. The FERG consists of approximately ten Fire and Emergency Service volunteers trained in road crash rescue, first aid, search and rescue and flood boat operation. A trailer with road crash rescue equipment is also located in Adelaide River. The group responds from a fire station in Adelaide River.
Education
Adelaide River Primary School caters from Preschool to Year 6 students.
Batchelor Area School classes range from early years to middle years. The school also offer senior years programs in partnership with the Northern Territory Open Education Centre.
Health
The Adelaide River Health Clinic is serviced by two registered nurses and operates Monday to Friday. Nursing staff are on-call after hours for emergencies. A doctor is based in Batchelor Clinic, 35 minutes away and visits Adelaide River on Wednesdays.
