NTES celebrates WOW Day across the Territory

On 21 May, Territorians will celebrate WOW Day (Wear Orange Wednesday) as part of National Volunteer Week. WOW Day is dedicated to recognising and thanking the incredible volunteers of the Northern Territory Emergency Service (NTES).

This year’s WOW Day holds special significance as NTES commemorates 50 years of service to the Northern Territory community, since its formation in the wake of Cyclone Tracy in 1974. From humble beginnings to now being a critical frontline response team for cyclones, floods and severe weather events, NTES volunteers remain a cornerstone of disaster readiness and community safety.

To mark the day, Territorians are encouraged to wear orange, host orange-themed morning teas, and send letters of kindness to thank NTES volunteers for their service.

Letters can be emailed to ntes@nt.gov.au and will be included in a celebratory video after WOW Day.

How to get involved:

  • Wear orange on Wednesday 21 May
  • Host an orange-themed morning tea
  • Send a letter of thanks to NTES volunteers (email to ntes@nt.gov.au)
  • Share on social media using #ThankYouNTES and tag @NT Emergency Service

To celebrate the occasion, there are events being held in Alice Springs and Darwin.
