Call for information – Stolen motor vehicles – Northern Suburbs

The Northern Territory Police Force is calling for information after recovering five stolen motor vehicles and arresting six people overnight in the Northern Suburbs.

About 11pm, police received reports of a Toyota Rav 4 being stolen from Larrakeyah after an unlawful entry. Later in the night, at 3:15am, it was found crashed into a tree on the corner of Mitchell and Briggs Street in the Darwin CBD. One male occupant was seen fleeing from the scene.

At 11:40pm, it was reported to police that a silver Landcruiser and a grey Audi were doing burnouts within Bagot Community. Police were later made aware that the silver Landcruiser was stolen from a residence in Ludmilla and the Audi was stolen during an unlawful entry in Cullen Bay. 

The silver Landcruiser was abandoned in Bagot Community with general duties later attempting to apprehend the Audi in the Darwin CBD. A pursuit was initiated and the vehicle was abandoned in Harriet Park, with all occupants fleeing the scene on foot.

Police received further reports at 3:30am of a white Landcruiser Prado that was stolen after an unlawful entry in Larrakeyah. At 8:40am this vehicle was located by Strike Force Trident and Dog Operations Unit at a Service Station in Stuart Park with three males aged 30, 31 and 42 being taken into custody.

At 4:30am, Strike Force Trident members attempted to apprehend a grey Hilux in Karama that was allegedly stolen from a residence in Malak. A pursuit was initiated after it failed to stop, and a short time later the vehicle crashed on the corner of Vanderlin and Kalymnos Drive. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene and left two passengers within the vehicle. 

The 16-year-old male driver was arrested by the Dog Operations Unit a short distance away. He is expected to be charged later today.

A passenger, a 32-year-old woman, was conveyed to Royal Darwin Hospital by St John Ambulance where she was treated for an arm injury. She will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.

The 11-year-old male who was also a passenger in the vehicle, did not suffering any injuries and was dealt with under provisions of the Youth Justice Act 2005

Strike Force Trident detectives have carriage of the investigation and are working to locate the outstanding offenders involved.

Detective Senior Sergeant Dale Motter-Barnard said “This was an incredibly complex incident for police to respond to and these offenders have put the community at risk of serious harm.

“We are confident our officers responded appropriately and in accordance with NTPF procedures, the circumstances of the pursuits will be reviewed.

“These offenders have no regard for the safety of those around them and the NTPF will do everything within our power to protect law-abiding Territorians.”
