Northern Territory Police have arrested four males following a pursuit in Alice Springs on Sunday morning.

At around 10:25am, police attempted to conduct a traffic apprehension of a white Holden Commodore on Schwarz Crescent in East Side.

The vehicle allegedly failed to stop for police, and a pursuit was initiated through East Side.

During the pursuit, occupants of the vehicle allegedly threw multiple items from the moving vehicle into the path of pursuing police.

The pursuit was terminated due to safety concerns before police located the vehicle a short time later on Undoolya Road. The vehicle allegedly took off at speed and police re-engaged.

Tyre spikes were successfully deployed on Sturt Terrace, deflating the vehicle’s front and rear driver-side tyres.

The vehicle was subsequently abandoned and the four occupants allegedly fled on foot, jumping multiple fences and discarding items of clothing in an attempt to evade police.

General Duties and Territory Road Policing members searched the surrounding area, with three male youths aged 15, 16 and 17 apprehended a short time later.

The alleged driver, a 22-year-old man, was subsequently located on Mills Street and arrested.

He is expected to be charged with driving a vehicle in a dangerous manner, driving unlicensed, driving an unregistered vehicle and failing to provide a breath sample.

Strike Force Viper members are conducting further enquiries in relation to the vehicle and a stealing incident at the East Side shops.

Senior Sergeant Glenn Bolger said this was great work by the responding members.

“Those involved attempted to evade police in a vehicle, allegedly threw objects into the path of our members and then fled on foot through residential properties.

“Within a short period, all four occupants had been located and apprehended through the coordinated efforts of Territory Road Policing, General Duties and Strike Force Viper.

Investigations remain ongoing.
