Hooning offences – Alice Springs

Police

Northern Territory Police have impounded a vehicle in relation to hooning offences in Alice Springs.

On the evening of Friday 31 May, police received multiple reports of a vehicle doing burnouts and causing significant road damage in Mount Johns.

Alice Springs general duties officers investigated and identified the owner and garaging address of the vehicle.

At 7am on Wednesday 5 June, general duties officers attended the address and seized the vehicle for hooning. The vehicle has subsequently been impounded.

The driver of the vehicle was issued an infringement notice for Damaging Road Surface, Make Unnecessary Noise, Drive Vehicle Cause Loss of Traction and Failing to Change Ownership Papers.

Senior Sergeant Robert Griffiths said, “Hooning will not be tolerated in our community.

“There is no place for it on our roads as it endangers not only the occupants of the vehicle, but members of the public as well, a number of whom were walking in the area at the time.

“Road safety is a shared responsibility.”

Road users are encouraged to report traffic offending to police either by calling 131 444 or online at https://pfes.nt.gov.au/reportonline.
