COVID-19 - Infringement notice - Darwin

Police

Northern Territory Police have issued an infringement notice to a 53-year-old woman for breaching a Chief Health Officer Direction.

The woman travelled from Western Australia to the Northern Territory on 31 January 2021, when Perth was declared a COVID-19 hotspot. Under the Chief Health Officer (CHO) Directions, she was required to take a COVID-19 test and self-isolate until receiving the results.

The woman underwent a COVID-19 test however, on 2 February 2021, during a compliance check, the woman was found to be walking around the suburb and not isolating at home awaiting COVID-19 test results as required.

Acting Commander Scott Pollock said, “Anyone entering the NT, should not take a CHO Direction to self-isolate lightly.

“It does not mean that you are free to walk around the neighbourhood once you have been tested. You must remain in isolation until you receive your results and do not put your community at risk.”

NT Police and Environmental Health Officers continue to undertake compliance activities.

The infringement penalty for failing to abide by the Chief Health Officer Directions issued under section 56 of the Public and Environmental Health Act 2011 is $5,056 for an individual and $25,280 for a business.
