Charges - Unlawful entry - Cullen Bay

Police

A quick police response and a vigilant member of the public has allowed Northern Territory Police to apprehend five people in relation to an unlawful entry at a Cullen Bay restaurant last night, with two being charged today.

It is alleged that the group forced entry to the premises around 9:30pm and stole a quantity of alcohol before fleeing when an audible alarm was activated.

They were located nearby shortly afterwards by general duties officers, in possession of three bags filled with liquor bottles to the value of approximately $360.

A 17-year-old female and three males aged 34, 35 and 40 were taken into custody, with the 34 and 35-year-olds charged with:

  • Damage to property
  • Unlawful entry to a building
  • Stealing

They have been remanded in custody to appear in Darwin Local Court tomorrow.

Further charges for the other alleged offenders are expected.

Police would like to remind businesses that the existing Biz Secure program has been expanded to include an Alcohol Secure grants program.

The program specifically provides targeted financial support to licensed premises to install crime prevention measures from the theft of alcohol and related damage.
