The Territory road toll climbs again - Marrara

Police

After a tragic day on Territory roads, a third person has died in a crash in Marrara this afternoon.

Senior Sergeant John Worrall of the Major Crash Investigation Unit, said the four car crash at the Stuart Highway and Amy Johnson Avenue intersection, occurred at around 1:45pm.

“Investigations are continuing to determine the exact cause of this collision.” Said Senior Sergeant Worrall.

“One of the vehicles caught fire but the blaze was quickly extinguished by NT Fire and Rescue members.”

“Police and St Johns members also attended. One male died at the scene and two others were taken to the Royal Darwin Hospital.”

“Three deaths on Territory roads in one afternoon is horrendous and Police urge drivers to slow down, belt up, avoid fatigue and inattention and don’t drink and drive.”

“Motor vehicle deaths are a tragedy that can be avoided if people take more care. Sadly another three people haven’t made it home tonight.”

“Motorists are urged to avoid the Intersection as it’s expected to be closed into the evening as Major Crash Investigators assess the scene. Those caught up in traffic delays are asked to remain patient.” Said Senior Sergeant Worrall.

This now takes the Territory road toll to 13 compared to six for the same period last year.
