Arrest - Aggravated assault and assault police - Alice Springs

The Northern Territory Police Force have arrested a male in relation to a domestic violence and assault police incident overnight.

Around 11:50pm, an adult female attended the front counter of the Alice Springs Police Station seeking refuge from a male known to her. Shortly after, the 32-year-old male entered the police station and allegedly pulled the female outside, where he assaulted her multiple times before fleeing as police intervened.

Officers pursued the alleged offender on foot to a nearby carpark and apprehended him. During the arrest, the male allegedly pushed one of the officers and attempted to pull the officer to the ground. The officer was forced to draw his taser at which time the offender surrendered without further incident. The taser was not deployed.

The male remains in police custody, and charges are expected to follow.

Acting Commander Michael Budge said, “The actions of this individual are despicable.

“The assaults against the victim and the arresting officers are completely unacceptable, and we maintain a zero-tolerance approach to this type of violence.

“I want to commend the officers involved for their swift and efficient intervention, as well as their professionalism in handling this incident.
