JACET Charges - Alice Springs

Northern Territory Police have charged a 69-year-old man with child exploitation offences in Alice Springs.

On 10 May 2024, detectives from the Joint Anti-Child Exploitation Team executed a search warrant on a residence in Gillen.

As a result of the search, a number of electronic devices were located including two encrypted Micro SD Cards. 

A number of exhibits were seized for examination by the Digital Forensic Unit. After a digital analysis, child abuse material was located on the devices.

Yesterday, the 69-year-old was arrested at his residential address by Alice Springs members and  later charged with:

  • 1 x Fail to comply with order to provide information or assistance
  • 2 x Possessing or controlling child abuse material
  • 3 x Accessing child abuse material

He was remanded to appear in Alice Springs Local Court on Monday 8 July 2024.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Mark Cronin said “ This sort of behaviour is reprehensible and has absolutely no place within our community.

“The Joint Anti-Child Exploitation Team will continue to target anyone who supplies, distributes or consumes child abuse material.”
