NT Police are calling for public assistance after an aggravated assault in Parap over night.

It is alleged a 54-year-old woman was walking along Hudson Fysh Avenue at about midnight last night when she was assaulted by an unknown male.

The male offender is alleged to have approached the woman from behind before grabbing her around the neck and threatening her with a knife.

Fortunately the victim was able to break free and did not receive any injuries as a result of the incident.

The offender is described as:
A male in his late 20s early 30s
Of Aboriginal appearance
He is believed to have been wearing a dark coloured windcheater with a hood, a dark T shirt and dark pants at the time of the incident.

Police are urging any one who may have witnessed the incident or who may have further information to contact them on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 000 333.
