At approximately 02.40 am this morning a taxi driver picked up six people from an address at Mahogany Crescent in Karama. The passengers asked to be taken to Royal Darwin Hospital.

The front seat passenger asked the taxi driver to stop the vehicle after the driver asked who would pay for the fare. The front seat passenger proceeded to exit the taxi, walk to the drivers' side and punch the driver to the head three times causing a blood nose.

The taxi driver then got out of the vehicle and ran off into the suburb of Malak. The passengers then also exited the taxi and walked off in the same direction as the driver. The passengers included three children, one adult female and two adult males.

The alleged offender is described as: Male Of Aboriginal appearance with a light complexion Solid build Wearing only dark shorts

NT Police urge anyone who may have witnessed the incident or may have further information regarding the offender or passengers to call them on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 000 333.
