Aggravated assault - Katherine

Katherine Police are calling for public assistance following the aggravated assault on a 54-year-old man at the Katherine hot springs on Sunday 24 October.

At approximately 1:50 am the victim was at the hot springs with an unknown companion he had just met when they were approached by a large group of unknown persons.

The victim has become involved in a verbal altercation with one male and one female from the group. The group has then allegedly assaulted the victim on the stairs before leaving the area.

The victim has then left the area and was located by police at the Katherine showgrounds. The victim was taken to the Katherine Hospital by St John Ambulance for treatment but has since been discharged.

The group of seven to ten persons is described as being made up of mostly males with at lest two females, of Caucasian appearance and in their late teens to early twenties.

The unknown companion of the victim is described as being a male of Aboriginal appearance in his late twenties.
Police are seeking information from the unknown male companion of the victim. He is urged to contact Katherine Police Station on 8973 8000.
