Police were alerted to an accident on Dundee Beach Road at Laverton Creek at approximately 08:00 pm last night.

Police believe the 21-year-old driver lost control of his Toyota Landcruiser on a bend and consequently left the road, colliding with a large tree.

The driver told witnesses at the scene that he swerved to avoid a kangaroo.

The driver and sole passenger of the vehicle were taken by ambulance to Royal Darwin hospital with minor injuries.

Police investigations are continuing.
