Cannabis, Cash and Vehicle seized - Alice Springs

Police

A 52 year-old man is in custody following a random breath test in Alice Springs last night.

Detective Superintendent Brent Warren said Police were conducting a RBT on Larapinta Drive as part of an operation to keep people safe as traffic increased for the upcoming sports weekend in Hermannsburg.

“A white Toyota Landcruiser came to the attention of Police and a subsequent search by drug dog Yona uncovered 182 grams of cannabis and more than $24,000 cash.

“Police will allege the man was planning to sell the drugs in remote communities and the cash was the result of previous sales.

Detective Superintendent Warren said scales, zip-lock bags, an extendable baton and eight mobile phones were also found in the vehicle which was subsequently seized.

“These people profiteering by the sale of drugs into aboriginal communities care nothing for the damage and misery they leave behind.  This is a good result for Police as this man appeared to be well set up for his alleged illegal activities.”

The man has been charged with possess a trafficable amount of cannabis, supply trafficable schedule 2 drug to Aboriginal community, possess tainted property and possess prohibited weapon.

He has been remanded in custody to appear before the Alice Springs Magistrates Court today.
