A 53-year-old man will appear in Alice Springs Magistrates Court today charged with drug offences following a traffic apprehension on the Barkly Highway.

Detective Sergeant Andy Bedwell said members from the Southern Traffic Command apprehended a utility towing a caravan 40km east of Three Ways on Wednesday afternoon.

“Members from the Tennant Creek Investigation Unit assisted the Southern Traffic Command with enquiries and conducted a search of the vehicle and caravan.

“Police located and seized 104 grams of cannabis, 418 grams of cannabis seeds and $3,750 in cash.

The 53-year-old male driver was charged with:

Possess cannabis – trafficable quantity

Possess cannabis seeds – commercial quantity.

“Police conduct regular patrols across some of the Northern Territory’s most remote roads and highways,” Detective Sergeant Bedwell said.

“Police do not tolerate the supply of illicit drugs into remote communities and will continue to target individuals who profit from this kind of offending.”
