Police have arrested and charged two males and one female with drug offences following a search warrant at a Darwin hotel.
Acting Commander Tony Fuller from the Crime and Specialist Service Command said Detectives from the Drug and Organised Crime Squad executed the search warrant yesterday morning.
“Upon a search of a room, Police located a small quantity of methamphetamine (ice), approximately $20,500 and a forged Queensland driver’s licence. A 46-year-old man from Queensland and a 37-year-old man from Darwin were arrested.
“A 26-year-old female from Queensland was also searched and Police located a further 38 grams of methamphetamine and a small quantity of cannabis. She was also arrested”.
The 46-year-old male and 26-year-old female will appear in Darwin magistrate’s court today charged with:
- Supply methamphetamine (x2)
- Possess methamphetamine – commercial quantity (x2)
- Possess tainted property (x2)
- Possess thing to administer dangerous drug
- Possess cannabis – public place
The 37-year-old male was charged with possessing and supplying methamphetamine and will appear in Darwin Magistrates Court on 24 March 2015.
“The damage ice causes to users, their friends and families as they watch the user’s health deteriorate as they lose control of their life is a concern right across Australia. The Northern Territory is not immune to this threat,” said Acting Commander Fuller.
“The spell that methamphetamine casts across the user makes them behave irrationally and do things that they would not ordinarily do to maintain their drug habit. More often than not they can’t or won’t recognise that they have a problem or an addiction despite the very obvious physical and mental changes to their bodies and minds.
“Our message to those in the community contemplating using this drug is that drug sellers are interested only in money and do not give any consideration to the very damaging effects the drugs they pedal have on the lives of the users.
“Have a look at long term users you may know and ask yourself; did they really want to become that person? Did they really want to become the next before and after shot on social media of an ice user?”
