Cannabis Seized - Alice Springs

Southern Substance Abuse Intelligence Desk (SSAID) and Southern Dog Operations Unit (SDOU) have seized 856grams of cannabis yesterday.

Detective Senior Constable Amanda Hardy said members SSAID and SDOU conducted a vehicle checkpoint on Stuart Highway just north of Alice Springs targeting the transportation of dangerous drugs to the Northern Territory.

“Members stopped a 68-year-old man driving a grey Holden Commodore sedan travelling from South Australia to Darwin.

“A search was conducted by Drug Detector Dog Quella providing positive response to the boot area of the vehicle.

“Police found two cryovac packages containing 856 grams of cannabis secreted in the boot of the vehicle.

“It is a timely reminder to anyone thinking about suppling cannabis or other drugs into our communities that Police will not tolerate this behaviour and you will be caught.

The man was charged with Supply commercial quantity cannabis and Possess commercial quantity cannabis.

He was remanded to appear in Alice Springs Magistrates Court today.
