Keep safe during Finke Desert Race

Northern Territory Police will be out in force at this year’s Finke Desert Race with the aim of keeping people safe.

Sergeant Conan Robertson from Southern Traffic Operations said Finke organisers are expecting bigger than previous attendance due to the 40th year celebrations.

“Police work closely with land owners, event officials and organisers and we ask that spectators and participants work with us to ensure everyone has a fun and safe time.

“To make your weekend a success you need to plan ahead and prepare sufficiently to ensure it is enjoyable and hassle free.

“Police advise you to have plans in place and ensure that you:

Leave unregistered vehicles and trailers at home

Be respectful to the environment and others around you

Do not drink and drive

Wear your seatbelts

Follow the road rules

Drive to conditions

Leave the racing to the competitors

Protect your belongings, lock up your house before you leave, lock your car and put your valuables out of site.

“We hope all race goers enjoy the weekend and behave in a responsible manner to ensure everyone has a safe weekend.

“Police will be maintain a highly visible presence and urge anyone who may witness anti-social or dangerous behaviour to report the incident to Police immediately.
