Aggravated Assault - Man Charged - Alice Springs

Detectives from Strike Force Romulus have charged a 29-year-old man for the alleged assault of his 29-year-old partner in Alice Springs on Saturday.

Detective Senior Sergeant Peter Dash said the victim was sitting in her vehicle at a service station on the Stuart Highway at around 5am when it is alleged the offender opened the car door and threw a rock, hitting the woman’s abdomen.

“Police allege the man then attended her residence a short time later and assaulted her.

“She was taken to Alice Springs Hospital and remains in a stable condition.”

Police arrested the 29-year-old man in Alice Springs yesterday morning and charged him with:

  • Unlawfully cause serious harm
  • Aggravated assault
  • Breach of a Domestic Violence Order

He was remanded in custody and will appear in Alice Springs Magistrates Court today.

“Police will continue to take a zero tolerance approach to violence of any kind. Safety is everyone’s right and we will hold offenders to account for their actions,” Detective Senior Sergeant Dash said.

“Any acts of violence should be immediately reported to Police on 131 444 or 000 in an emergency.”
