Man Arrested Reckless Driving Alice Springs

Police

Southern Traffic Operations members apprehended a 32-year-old male after he was detected speeding on Hartley St, Alice Springs.

Around 8.50pm on Sunday 20 December the man was clocked doing 58 kilometres per hour in a 40 kilometre per hour zone on a wet evening.

Officer in Charge Sergeant Conan Robertson said that the man appeared intoxicated and was subjected to a breath analysis.

“He was breath tested before being arrested for a breath analysis that returned a reading of 0.184 BrAC - more than three times the limit.”

He was charged with:

  • Drive with High Range BrAC
  • Exceed the speed limit 16-30 km over.

He has been bailed to appear in the Alice Springs Court on 12 January 2016.

“The recent inclement weather in Alice Springs has increased the risks on our roads,” Sergeant Robertson said. “To make the deplorable choice to drink and then drive and speed in adverse conditions puts all of us at risk.

“The Northern Territory road toll for 2015 is horrific. Too many people have been lost this year and we need to work together to stop the carnage.

“Please, if you are travelling and consuming any alcohol, plan ahead. Arrange a Sober Bob and don’t take the risk of getting behind the wheel. When it is wet I implore drivers to slow down and drive to the conditions so that we can all stay safe and everyone can enjoy the festive season.”
