Ransomware reported in NT

Police

The Northern Territory Police cybercrime unit has received reports that four Northern Territory businesses have been affected by the global ransomware incident (Wanna Cry).

These businesses have suffered significant impact that in some cases is continuing to prevent them from operating.

“The ransomware incident highlights the need for all businesses to ensure that their systems are up-to-date with the most current patches and they have back-up procedures in place,” Detective Sergeant Craig Windebank said.

“If your computer system has the most recent patches installed you are safe from this incident.”

Advice about how to prevent a ransomware incident is available on the Australian Cyber Security Centre website (www.acsc.gov.au).

Affected businesses should report on www.acorn.gov.au or through the Australian Cyber Security Centre number 1300 CYBER1 (1300 292371).
