Police

Northern Territory Police have charged five offenders in relation to an aggravated burglary at a business in Alice Springs on Saturday evening.

Around 8.30pm, the Joint Emergency Services Communication Centre (JESCC) received reports of an unlawful entry at a business on the Stuart Highway.

Significant damage was allegedly caused to the front door to the business and multiple items were subsequently stolen.

Members from Operation Grimmel, the Dog Operations Unit and general duties officers responded and quickly apprehended four offenders.

The fifth offender fled the scene but was apprehended by police a short time later.

The five male offenders aged 15, 16, 16, 16, and 19-years-old were remanded in custody and charged with Theft, Aggravated Burglary and Damage to property.

Strike Force Viper Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Juanita Bauwens said, “I commend the excellent policing work involved in quickly apprehending the offenders.

“This type of behaviour has no place in our community and we will continue to target those intending to commit crimes and cause harm.”

Northern Territory Police continue to urge anyone who witnesses crime or anti-social behaviour to make contact on 131 444 or Triple Zero (000) in an emergency. Anonymous tips can also be made through Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via https://crimestoppersnt.com.au/.
