Northern Territory Police have arrested a road train driver for drug driving following a rollover on the Stuart Highway north of Katherine this morning.
Soon after 08:00am emergency services received a call to the Joint Emergency Services Communication Centre informing them that 2 rear trailers of a road train had rolled about 40km north of Katherine.
The prime mover and the first trailer remained upright and the driver of a passing road train stopped and helped the driver of the rolled trailers decouple them.
One trailer was situated in the median strip between the double lanes of the Stuart Highway near the Edith Falls turnoff and another was on the left-hand side of the north bound lanes, partially protruding into the lane.
The 35-year-old driver of the crashed road train then left the area and travelled north while the assisting road train driver called the JESCC at 08:06am.
Katherine general duties officers attended the scene and subsequently found the driver of the rolled over trailers at a rest stop about 4km north of the crash scene about 11:00am.
A search found prohibited drugs and drug paraphernalia. The driver was then arrested and taken back to Katherine watch house where he is expected to be charged later today.
