Northern Territory Police are continuing the investigation into the fatal hit & run crash at Nhulunbuy on Sunday morning.
The deceased has been formally identified as a 25-year-old local man and police are working with his family to understand his movements.
Major Crash detectives are working with local police officers to identify the vehicle and the driver involved. Detectives have commenced collecting and reviewing CCTV footage in and around Nhulunbuy on Saturday night and Sunday morning.
Detective Senior Sergeant Brendan Lindner said, “We believe the crash occurred around 1.30am on Sunday morning. The driver failed to stop and clearly now seeks to remain unidentified. We’re calling on the public to help us identify the driver.
“A Repco Superlite bicycle, described as a white road bike with green handles and a blue seat, was located at the crash site. If you recognise or know anything about this bike, please contact police.”
“If you were a passenger in the vehicle at the time, or later learned of who and what vehicle was involved, please contact police.
“If you were the driver, or know who the driver is, it’s not too late to now do the right thing and contact police.”
