Northern Territory Police are investigating a fatal hit and run crash that occurred earlier this morning in Nhulunbuy.

Shortly before 2am, police received a report of an injured cyclist on Melville Bay Road, approximately 4kms from the township. Upon arrival at the scene, paramedics located a deceased male.

A crime scene has been declared, and Major Crash Detectives are travelling to the location to investigate the circumstances of the crash.

Melville Bay Road remains closed while investigations continue.
