Arrest – Aggravated robbery – Tiwi

Police

NT Police Dog Operations Unit has successfully arrested a 31-year-old man involved in an aggravated robbery in Tiwi on 9 May 2023.

The arrest was made after Serious Crime, General Duties, and Strike Force Trident members had been actively looking for the offender since Tuesday when they received information the man, who was driving a red Commodore sedan, was allegedly casing businesses in Pinelands around 11pm.

The vehicle was later sighted driving erratically throughout the Northern Suburbs before rear-ending another vehicle on McMillian's Road just before 3am this morning.

The man fled the crash scene running into nearby bushland. Patrol Dog Drax and his handler were deployed to track the man nearly 2kms in and located the man hiding in thick vegetation near Robertson Barracks.

A 25-year-old woman was not injured during the crash but was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital as a precaution.

The offender is now in custody and will be facing charges in relation to the incident, which saw a 61-year-old man treated in hospital after being stabbed with a shovel in his backyard.

This successful arrest is a testament to the dedication and hard work of the frontline men and women. The Northern Territory Police Force would like to thank the community for their continued support in helping to keep our streets safe.
