Traffic offences - Katherine

Police

Northern Territory Police continue to raise concerns with the public about road safety after a disappointing result from patrols along the Stuart Highway.

In a 24-hour period, local members conducted patrols from Katherine to Larrimah and back.

Police issued five notices to appear for a number of traffic offences such as driving disqualified, unlicensed, drink driving, no person in the front seat for a learner driver and driving with a child unrestrained.

A further 11 infringement notices for traffic offences were also issued, which included offences for not wearing a seatbelt, speeding and running a red light.

Superintendent Craig Garland said, “It’s extremely disappointing to see that some members of the community continue to ignore the road safety message.

“We know that seatbelts save lives, so having children unrestrained in vehicles is completely unacceptable.”

During the same patrols, police also issued six liquor infringement notices after seizing and destroying 92 litres of alcohol, believed destined for remote communities.
