Outcomes of Road Safety's National Day of Action

Police

Policing jurisdictions across the nation came together on Friday, 24 January 2020 in support of road safety’s National Day of Action, heavily focusing on drink and drug driving.

The operation ran for 24 hours in every State and Territory with over 90,000 breath tests conducted.

The National Day of Action confirmed that drug driving is an emerging issue and presents a significant danger to road users.

Almost one-thousand Drug Tests were conducted with 13 percent being positive.

Road Policing Command Superintendent Neil Hayes said “It is pleasing to see that the large majority seem to be getting the message about impaired driving.

The fact that we have caught any suggest that we still have work to do.

It is concerning that there are still so many impaired by drugs and assuming they are fine to be behind the wheel. This is definitely an area to continue to focus on moving forward.”
