Police issue drug warning

Police

Northern Territory Police are warning the public about the dangers of illicit substances following two overdoses on the weekend.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Stringer said police and St John Ambulance were called to a licenced premises in Woolner on Sunday evening following reports a number of people overdosed on MDMA.

“Emergency personnel attended and located two males aged 30 and 34 unconscious. Both males were eventually woken and began displaying erratic behaviour.

“They were conveyed to Royal Darwin Hospital for observation.”

It is believed both males had ingested an illicit substance.

“These incidents are completely avoidable,” said Detective Senior Sergeant Stringer.

“People taking illicit drugs are often not aware of what they are taking.

“Pills sold under the pretence that they are MDMA are often something else; a nasty synthetic variant, manufactured in unhygienic laboratories by criminals only interested in profit.

“The message is simple, don’t take drugs,” he said.

There is no information to suggest this incident is linked to the overdoses reported in Victoria.

If you have any information on the sale or manufacture of illicit substances in the Northern Territory contact police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. You can remain anonymous.
