Northern Territory Police are currently engaged in the school holiday program, Operation Lanvin.

The operation is a three-phase program focussed on education, engagement and enforcement.

Northern Operations Division Senior Sergeant Paul Griggs said the program aimed to work collaboratively with the community to ensure members of the public and their property are kept safe over the June-July school holiday period.

“Members across Darwin and Palmerston will use a combination of foot, vehicle and Segway patrols to target anti-social behaviour in and around busy areas in peak periods,” he said.

“These areas include in shopping centres, on public transport and around other public areas.

“Transit Officers from the Department of Transport as well as security staff from the Casuarina and Palmerston Shopping Centres will assist in operations.”

Senior Sergeant Griggs said the Community Engagement Van is stationed in the rural area on Mondays, Darwin City on Tuesdays, Casuarina Square and surrounds on Wednesdays, Mindil Beach Markets on Thursdays and the Palmerston Shopping Centre, CBD and markets on Fridays.

The Police and Citizens Youth Club’s (PCYC) Wongabilla Equestrian Centre have also been running their own school holiday program.

Since the school holidays began, police have engaged with more than 1100 members of the public, given out more than 150 Neighbourhood Watch UV marker kits, moved 51 people on.

Extra officers from Strike Force Trident and the Territory Response Group (TRG) are running patrols across evening and night shifts, targeting hot spot locations and responding to ever-changing trends for the duration of the holidays.

These extra patrols deter youths from offending at night.

The operation will run until school returns on 24 July.
