Two Men Charged – Drug Manufacturing – Alice Springs

Taskforce Nemesis members along with Southern Drug Investigation Unit have charged two males following the discovery of a clandestine laboratory in Alice Springs.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Stringer said on 27 July 2016, Australian Border Force and Australian Federal Police officers intercepted two packages; one containing a large quantity of glassware and drug manufacturing equipment and the other containing drug chemicals.

“Following further investigations, yesterday Police executed a search warrant on an Alice Springs residence,” he said.

“Upon entry, Police located a clandestine laboratory, containing a large amount of chemicals and equipment, believed to be used in manufacturing of Methylenedioxyamphetamine (MDA). Two men were arrested and conveyed to Alice Springs Watch House.”  

A 30-year-old was charged with:

  • Possess schedule one substance - Commercial quantity
  • Supply schedule one substance - Commercial quantity
  • Manufacture schedule one substance - Commercial quantity
  • Possess cannabis 

A 35-year-old was charged with:

  • Possess schedule one substance - Commercial quantity
  • Supply schedule one substance - Commercial quantity 

Both men were remanded in custody to appear in the Alice Springs Local Court today. 

“Based on the amount of chemicals and the process of making MDA, it is estimated that the potential yield could have been about 3000 grams of MDA,” Detective Senior Sergeant Stringer said.
