Northern Territory Police have arrested a 40-year-old man in relation to a domestic violence disturbance that occurred in Katherine overnight.

Around 8:50pm, police received reports of a female sitting on the Stuart highway who appeared to have been assaulted.

Police attended and the victim was able to provide a brief description of the incident.

A short time later, a 40-year-old man was located arrested.

The man is believed to be known to the victim.

The victim was conveyed to Katherine District Hospital for treatment.

Police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident to contact police on 131 444 and quote number NTP2400099055.
