Ten Youths Arrested – Unlawful Use of a Motor Vehicle – Palmerston

Police

Strike Force Trident Detectives have arrested 10 youths following the theft and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Stringer said on Monday 21 September a white Toyota Camry was stolen from a residence in Tiwi.

“In the early hours of Tuesday morning, the vehicle was involved in a drive-off from a Yarrawonga service station.

“At 10:00am on Tuesday the vehicle in question was sighted traveling down Emery Avenue before being involved in a minor collision with a parked car. Members from Trident and Palmerston Station attended and arrested nine youths.

The youths aged between 10 and 15 were interviewed. Subsequently a 14-year-old female was charged with:

  • Unlawful use of a motor vehicle
  • Driving whilst unlicensed
  • Damage to property
  • Drive without due care
  • Stealing

She will appear in Darwin Youth Justice Court on Friday 25 September.

Two youths received youth diversion. Six received written warnings.

Last night members from Strike Force Trident arrested a 14-year-old male in relation to the theft of the vehicle. He is expected to be charged later today.

“To apprehend nine kids in the one stolen car is quite alarming. We believe they ran a number of red lights, putting themselves and the public in danger. Swift and decisive Police action has prevented another possible fatality,” said Detective Senior Sergeant Stringer.
