Detectives from the Serious Crime Squad are investigating the circumstances surrounding a structure fire in Coconut Grove early this morning.

Detective Senior Constable First Class Jakson Evans said Police received a report a unit on Runge Street was alight at around 3:00am.

“Fire crews attended and extinguished the fire a short time later; the unit sustained extensive smoke damage. Fortunately no one was inside the unit at the time of the fire.

“Police are treating the fire as suspicious and investigations are ongoing.

“Police urge anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious activity in the area between 2:00am and 3:00am or anyone who may have any further information to contact Police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”
