Strike Force Romulus Arrest Two

Police

Strike Force Romulus have continued their zero tolerance approach towards domestic violence assaults following the arrest of two men over the weekend.

Detective Superintendent Brent Warren said Police allege a 42-year-old man assaulted his partner at a residence in Sadadeen on Thursday.

“Police allege the offender assaulted the 43-year-old woman again on Saturday. She received treatment for injuries to her head and offender was arrested a short time later.

“He was charged with two counts of aggravated assault, armed with an offensive weapon and unlawfully cause harm.”

He was remanded in custody and will appear in Alice Springs Magistrates Court today.

“In a separate incident Police also arrested a 36-year-old man following an incident at Ti Tree last September, Detective Superintendent Warren said.

“Police allege the offender was conducting burn outs and driving in a dangerous manner near the petrol bowsers at the Roadhouse.

“A 43-year-old male relative attempted to stop the offender. Police allege the offender turned the vehicle and drove straight at the victim. The victim tried to jump out of the way but was stuck by the vehicle.

“The victim sustained serious injuries to his leg and was taken to Alice Springs Hospital for treatment.”

Police arrested the offender on Friday and charged him with drive motor vehicle causing harm, drive in a manner that is dangerous and drive disqualified.

“NT Police do not tolerate acts of violence in any situation, however family violence is particularly heinous given that victims are being hurt by loved ones,” Detective Superintendent Warren said.

“Any acts of violence should be immediately reported to Police on 131 444 or 000 in an emergency.”
