Police are currently searching for a prisoner, 49-year-old Gavin Rankin, who escaped from custody this afternoon.

Territory Duty Superintendent Richard Bryson said Mr Rankin was the driver of a prisoner work bus, he was undertaking an employment drop this afternoon when he abandoned the bus and fled.

"He was last seen at Fisherman’s Wharf, Francis Bay at around 5:00pm.

"Mr Rankin was sentenced in relation to an aggravated robbery. Police advise the public not to approach him but contact Police immediately on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000."
