Aggravated Assault - Alice Springs

Police

Police have finalised the investigation into the death of male who was found deceased in Alice Springs on Thursday, 17 September 2015.

Superintendent Travis Wurst said an autopsy has not been able to confirm the cause of death, but there is no evidence at this stage to suggest the death was suspicious.

“It was previously indicated that the deceased male appeared to have suffered head trauma.  The investigation identified the deceased was assaulted prior to his death but this assault was not significant in nature and did not attribute to his death,” Superintendent Wurst said.

On Saturday afternoon 19 September 2015, a 60 year old male was arrested for the assault on the deceased at Titjiklala community and transferred to Alice Springs where he was later charged with:

  • Aggravated assault
  • Armed with an offensive weapon

He has been remanded in custody to appear in the Alice Springs Magistrates Court on Monday, 21 September 2015.

The identity of the deceased has been confirmed as a 63 year old Alice Springs male.

A file will now be prepared for the Coroner in relation to the death.
