Public Assistance Sought - Stolen Motor Vehicles - Alice Springs

Southern Investigation Detectives are seeking public assistance following the theft of four motor vehicles in Alice Springs last night.

Detective Senior Sergeant Peter Malley said a number of unknown offenders unlawfully entered a motor vehicle business on the North Stuart Highway at around 10pm and stole a Ford Mondeo.

“Police received a second report that an organisation on Bagot Street had been unlawfully entered at around 12:30am and two Ford Rangers and a Toyota Camry had been stolen.

“The four vehicles were seen driving erratically around Alice Springs CBD. Police attempted to apprehend these vehicles however the drivers refused to stop.

“An occupant in the Ford Mondeo allegedly threw a large rock at a stationary Police vehicle on Herbert Heritage Drive as it drove past it, smashing the windscreen.

“Police located the vehicle on the North Stuart Highway, the four offenders abandoned the car and fled the scene on foot. One of the offenders allegedly threw a large rock at a second Police vehicle also smashing the windscreen.

“Police conducted foot patrols in bushland and the offenders continued to throw rocks at the officers. One rock struck an officer in the head and he was taken to Alice Springs Hospital to receive treatment and was later released.

“Police located a Ford Ranger abandoned on Undoolya Road a short time later. Police are still looking for two outstanding vehicles. A Ford Ranger and a Toyota Camry.”

An 18-year-old male was arrested, he remains in custody and is assisting Police with their enquiries.
