A 26-year-old man has been charged with robbery, stealing and assault in relation to two incidents that occurred at Casuarina Shopping Centre.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Stringer from Strike Force Trident said the alleged offender followed a 33-year-old woman through the centre after she withdrew money from an ATM on 29 April.

“He has allegedly stolen the woman’s wallet, which was sitting on top of a pram and fled the area.

“The offender returned to the complex yesterday and allegedly followed a 76-year-old woman to the toilets and stole her handbag at around 11 am.

“A 37-year-old man has confronted the alleged offender who threw the bag at the man striking him in the face. The 26-year-old was arrested by Police a short time later.

“He was remanded in custody and will appear in Darwin Magistrates Court today.”
