Update - Death - Parap

Police

Major Crime Detectives continue the investigation into the death of the 61-year-old Elcho Island man which occurred in Parap on Tuesday night.

Detective Senior Sergeant Tony Henrys said an autopsy has revealed the man died from blood loss.

“We believe his injuries were mostly likely sustained in an altercation with another person or persons,” Detective Senior Sergeant Henrys said.

“Detectives are particularly interested in talking to a Caucasian male that we believe was sitting at the bus stop near the Stuart Highway/Parap Road intersection. This person is described to be in his early 40s with a bald head and, at the time of the incident, was wearing a black t-shirt.

"We know there were a number of cars that had to actively avoid people on the road outside the United Church building near the Woolner Road intersection.

“Police urge anyone that may have been in the vicinity of the Uniting Church building between 9 and 11 pm on Tuesday night, who may have also witnessed any suspicious behaviour, to contact them on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”
