Three Offenders - Same Car - Alice Springs

Police

Police have been left speechless after a green Suzuki Swift was involved in three separate incidents across a 24 hour period.

Watch Commander Siri Tennosaar said the sorry saga came to a head last night when the vehicle rolled over on the Ross Highway.

“The driver disappeared after the crash and left his 30 year-old male passenger trapped inside the vehicle.  Police are investigating and due to the significant impact of the crash the driver and any other possible passengers are likely to have sustained injuries.

“If anyone knows the whereabouts of this person they are urged to contact Police on 131 444 or call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 444.”

Watch Commander Tennosaar said the vehicle had been involved in other incidents prior to the crash.

“The vehicle first came to Police attention on Thursday night when a 24 year-old male was arrested for a high range drink driving offence.  The male was also charged with drive while disqualified and stealing after he had allegedly driven off from a fuel station without paying.

“Less than 24 hours later the same vehicle was reported as having turned away from an RBT station.  A short chase was terminated for safety reasons.  We then received reports of a green Suzuki doing ‘burn outs’ on Anzac Hill.

“A short time later the vehicle was apprehended and a 22 year-old male was charged with a high range drink driving offence, drive while unlicensed and fail to obey direction of Police.”

Watch Commander Tennosaar said the car was now permanently out of action.

“It is quite concerning that the people driving this car had no regard for the law, other road users or fellow Alice Springs community members.  The actions of these three drivers over a very short time in the same vehicle are quite honestly, beyond stupidity.”
