Swift Arrest After CCTV Surveillance - Alice Springs

Police

A quick thinking CCTV Operator has led Police directly to offenders seen breaking into an Alice Springs shop overnight.

About half-past-three this morning a CCTV Operator in Darwin detected three boys smashing a window and stealing two push scooters and three hats from the ‘Decked Out’ store in the Todd Mall.

The CCTV Operator tracked the movements of two of the teenagers and immediately directed Officers to their location where they were arrested.

A third offender has now also since been arrested.

“This is a mindless act as the cost to the shop owner to replace the window is worth more than the cost of the goods stolen.” Said Sergeant Trent Abbott.

“It also proves the success of full time CCTV Operators in Darwin monitoring events in Alice Springs.”

“The 13 and 14 year olds are facing charges of unlawful entry, criminal damage and stealing while the 17 year old will be considered for youth diversion on a charge of receiving stolen property.” Said Sgt Abbott.
