Sexual Offenders to Face Court - Oenpelli

Two men will face court in Oenpelli this morning charged with sexual offences resulting from separate incidents.

Detective Senior Sergeant Scott Manley from the Sex Crimes Division said that members of the Child Abuse Taskforce (CAT), Darwin Metropolitan and Oenpelli Police had arrested a 54 year-old Oenpelli man yesterday.

“The tireless work of the CAT and Sex Crimes Division has resulted in this alleged offender being charged with:

6 counts - Sexual Intercourse of Child under 16 years;

3 counts - Deprivation of Liberty;

1 count - Commit act of Gross Indecency with Child under 16 years; and

2 counts - Indecent Dealing of Child under 16 years.

“Police also arrested a second man, aged 18 years, in a separate incident.  He has been charged with one count of Sexual Intercourse Without Consent and one count of Aggravated Assault.”

Detective Senior Sergeant Manley reiterated that the safety of children is of paramount importance to Police.

“The vigilance and professionalism of the CAT and associated members has taken two alleged offenders out of this community.

“Police urge anyone who may be the victim of abuse, or may know of any child who is in an unsafe environment, to contact the Child Abuse Taskforce on 1800 700 250 or Police on 131 444.”
