Police Investigate Assaults in Darwin

Serious Crime Squad Detectives are investigating two similar incidents that occurred overnight in Darwin.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Chris Board said the first incident occurred outside the Darwin Entertainment Centre on Mitchell Street at around midnight.

“It was reported that two men, with covered faces, approached a group of men walking along Mitchell Street when a fight occurred,” Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Board said.

“The second incident occurred around 2:00 am when a 45-year-old male was approached by two men with their faces covered outside the Casino on Gilruth Avenue.

“Male one is described as possibly being of Aboriginal appearance, medium build and approximately 178cm tall.

“Male two is described to be of Caucasian appearance with a medium build.

“The offenders demanded money from the victim however when he declined, he was assaulted and his wallet was stolen.

“We suspect these two incidents are linked and I urge anyone that may have witnessed either incident, or who may have been in the abovementioned areas, to contact Police on 131 444.”
