Police Appeal to Public to Help Find Escapee

Police

Alice Springs Police are asking for public assistance to apprehend teenaged escapee Ian Pope.

Detective Sergeant Trent Abbott said Police have been conducting searches around the community after a confirmed sighting of the 17 year-old on the weekend.

“We believe Pope is being assisted by certain people in the town and may be committing offences in his bid to evade capture.  We are appealing to the public to be on the look out for this young man and report any sightings immediately.”

Detective Sergeant Abbott said Police do not consider Pope to be a threat to safety but caution people not approach him.

“People can assist by reporting his location to Police.  Pope was allegedly sighted in the area of Charles Creek and was reported to be wearing a black jacket.”

Pope and six other youths escaped lawful custody on the 19th of May from the Alice Springs Juvenile Detention Centre.  The other six have been arrested and returned to custody but Pope remains on the loose.

Anybody who knows the whereabouts of Ian Pope or who may have seen him is urged to contact Police on 131 444 or call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
