Police

Operation Trident members have arrested 22 people in just nine days, in a crack down on unlawful entry and stealing offenders throughout Darwin and the surrounding suburbs.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Mark Stringer said Trident members continue to target not only these types of offenders, but those suppling dangerous drugs and stealing and interfering with motor vehicles.

“It has been really busy; however we do not plan on letting up on these alleged criminals.”

The string of arrests began on Thursday 01 November, with the arrests of five men for their alleged involvement in the theft of three firearms from a gun supply store in Berrimah.

Two men aged 19 and 20 were arrested for a number of offences committed in Stuart Park, Larrakeyah, Winnellie, Parap and Bayview from 30 October. It is alleged the two men stole up to $120,000 worth property including three vehicles, bicycles, power tools, jewellery and electronic and computer goods.

Three men aged 19, 21 and 22 have also been arrested in relation to a ram raid at Tracy Village Social and Sports Club which occurred Wednesday, 7 November.

It was reported to Police that a stolen Ford Falcon was used to drive through the loading bay doors. A large quantity of beer and cider was stolen and the offenders fled the area. As of this morning, all three have been located and arrested.

Two new Hyundai hatchbacks, worth $30,000 each, were stolen from a car dealership on Hook Road in Winnellie on 01 November. One was found within a few hours near Knuckey Lagoon with approximately $20,000 worth of damage. The second vehicle was located on Monday near Channel Point.

“Since Tridents inception, Police have arrested 130 people for various offences ranging from drug offences to stealing, unlawful entry and motor vehicle theft. Over $300,000 worth of stolen items have also been recovered.

“We have a very dedicated team who will stop at nothing to arrest recidivist offenders such as these,” Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Stringer said.
