Operation Cowboy Extends Range

Police

Tennant Creek Police have extended the duration of Operation Cowboy after positive results and community feedback.

Constable Colin Jenkinson said the success of Operation Cowboy was due to the people of Tennant Creek themselves and hard work by Police.

"By having targeted patrols at night we have identified a core group of property offenders.  These people are being investigated with many now either remanded in custody, on bail or with youth diversion pending.”

“Our use of proactive patrols and engaging the community have resulted in information that has led directly to a drop in property crime in and around Tennant Creek since the start of the operation,” added Constable Jenkinson.

In the last four days Police have solved seven outstanding unlawful entry cases.  Four people will face court and eleven more are to be considered for youth diversion.  Since Operation Cowboy began there has been only one report of criminal damage in the town.

Constable Jenkinson said the operation no longer has an end date but urges the people of Tennant Creek to remain vigilant, security conscious and continue to report any suspicious behaviour to Police on 131 444 and Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

“We all want to feel safe in our homes and on our streets.  The zero tolerance approach by Police will continue and all the people of our town should be proud that they have contributed to making this possible.”
